Café Operations Coordinator

Melly’s Market + Café is looking for a hands-on Café Operations Coordinator to help lead the daily execution of our café, bakery, and market. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, takes initiative naturally, loves structure and systems, and takes real pride in creating a beautiful, well-run environment.
This is not a sit-back-and-direct role. It is a hands-on position for someone who leads through action, notices details, follows through, and helps ensure that our standards are met or exceeded every single day.
At Melly’s, the Café Operations Coordinator plays an important role in keeping the bakery stocked and beautiful, the back of house clean and organized, the market visually appealing, and the customer experience strong and consistent. This person will also work alongside apprentices, helping teach pricing, labelling, merchandising, and other operational tasks in a practical and supportive way.

Role Overview
As the Café Operations Coordinator, you will support and lead the day-to-day execution of café operations with a strong focus on standards, organization, product flow, presentation, and customer experience. You will help ensure the bakery is consistently stocked, the market is well merchandised, inventory is closely monitored, waste is reduced, and team members are coached in real time to maintain a high standard of service and care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Café, Bakery & Back of House Operations

Help lead the day-to-day operations of the café, bakery, and market with a high level of ownership and consistency

Ensure the bakery is well stocked, visually appealing, and ready for service through strong pull systems and regular oversight

Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, food quality, service, and presentation across all areas

Ensure back of house spaces are clean, orderly, well maintained, and set up to support efficient service

Protect and care for equipment, ensuring it is used properly and maintained to Melly’s standards

Know the menu, systems, recipes, and standards thoroughly and help ensure they are followed consistently

Notice when something is slipping and address it promptly
2. Inventory, Product Flow & Waste Reduction

Monitor inventory regularly and maintain a strong understanding of stock levels, product flow, and supply needs

Support ordering, replenishment, and inventory organization

Use and maintain strong pull systems to keep products available while minimizing overproduction and waste

Track waste and help identify ways to improve efficiency and maximize the use of ingredients and product

Keep recipes updated and organized as needed

Complete simple inventory and product-related reporting as required
3. Merchandising, Labelling & Visual Presentation

Ensure the café, bakery, and market are consistently beautiful, well merchandised, and appealing to customers

Lead pricing, labelling, signage, and merchandising for new and existing products

Monitor displays and presentation throughout the week and make adjustments to maximize customer appeal and sales

Bring a strong eye for design, detail, and visual consistency to the customer experience

Work with apprentices to teach merchandising, pricing, and labelling in a hands-on and structured way
4. Team Support, Coaching & Customer Experience

Help set the tone for a warm, high-standard customer experience

Coach staff and apprentices in the moment to maintain quality, consistency, and service standards

Support training and reinforce operational expectations, systems, and routines

Work collaboratively with the leadership team and Learning & Development team

Lead by example through urgency, accountability, professionalism, and follow-through
-
Step in where needed to support service, baking, setup, cleanup, or floor execution

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience in a café, bakery, hospitality, culinary, or food service environment

Experience in a leadership, coordination, or supervisory capacity is an asset
-
Strong understanding of café operations, inventory, product flow, and customer service
-
Experience with merchandising, visual presentation, or retail display is a strong asset
-
Baking or café production experience is a strong asset
-
Experience supporting seasonal features, menu ideas, or drink development is an asset
-
Food Handler certification required
-
Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is an asset, but not required
-
Comfortable using POS systems and simple digital tools as needed

Available to work Tuesday to Saturday

Compensation & Benefits

Full-time position, 35-40 hours per week

Extended health, dental, and health spending account after 3 months
- $22/hr to start.
Additional Requirements:
- Flexible hours / evenings / weekends may be required for this position.
- Background Check: A Police Vulnerable Sector is a requisite for this role.
- Must be comfortable parking off-site.
